Golden Hearts

by Nathan King Miller

/

about

A country-rock nod to the late, great Glenn Frey of the Eagles and a meditation on a journey to the Golden Heart city of Fairbanks, Alaska.

lyrics

We were searching for
a place not far from what it was back then

When the fires blazed
and the land became a wild place again

You never know what the horizon will show
until your journey begins.

Now we set our course
to the frozen north three thousand miles away

And the wheels did roll
as the land unfolded from day to day

How could we ever foresee a land
as hard as the price that we'd pay

Sometimes a hope too strong
can sever ties and lead you astray

Well we had our dreams
A million things for us to see and do

But the grind of time,
it will bind you baby through and through

When the sun sets low
you feel the cold and the darkness near

These golden hearts are caught
down in a rut when the hope disappears

Still we might find
a place for our lives, a place for our dreams

It seems they reside
wherever we share our company

Now we pack our things
see what it brings just as we used to do

And the northern lights
adorn the nights like a crowning jewel

The toughest roads harden souls
to the bitter end

These golden hearts will not break apart
in the fierce winter wind
